Modelland
TYRA BANKS COMPANION APP
PROJECT
The conception of model and entrepreneur Tyra Banks, Modelland is a narrative-driven experience where clients come and live out their fashion fantasies. Guests at the location would experience fashion runways, monthly celebrity visits, narrative plots with actors and performers, photoshoots and exclusive VIP experiences.
The objective of the app was to act as a companion to the Modelland location. Visitors would book their trips, receive exclusive content, and purchase retail items through the platform. My role on this project consisted of developing the visual style, mobile design system, and layouts of the ‘Lookbook’ users would receive.

The work
A large portion of the design focused on a digital ‘Lookbook’ that guests would receive after completing their photoshoot. This app would store the client’s photos and generate unique visuals based on their tastes.
Once populated the Lookbook would act as a mini-magazine featuring the clients as the star.
Wireframes & User Flows
After meeting with the client and running through the technical requirements needed for the MVP, wireframes and user flows were created to flesh out how the app would engage the user and onboard them to the Modelland experience once they were at the location.
Onboarding
Onboarding and profile creation became a critical part of having the user's experience flow smoothly at Modelland. During onboarding, users would personalize their experience by selecting visuals and themes that represented their favourite things, and personality traits.
Visual Style
The design was a combination of Tyras personal brand and her vision for the interior design of the in-person location. Several visual mock ups and visual tests were created before the final assets were developed.
A design system was implemented to create flexible assets, and allow for changes in the onsite photography to fit seamlessly within the app.
Details about their physical traits (such as hair colour, skin tone, and eye colour) so that appropriate cosmetics and costumes could be used during their photoshoot and makeover experience.
